BOPP (Biaxially-Oriented Polypropylene) tape jumbo rolls are the raw material for the global packaging tape industry. If you're a converter, re-manufacturer or brand-label reseller, the jumbo roll you slit into finished SKUs is what your entire customer experience is built on. Here's a practical guide to specifying and buying jumbo rolls at export scale.
Two industry-standard widths — and why they matter
288 mm × 1000 m — Mini jumbo rolls
These 288 mm mini jumbo rolls are the workhorse SKU for small-to-mid converters who slit down to standard finished-tape widths of 12, 24, 36, 48 or 72 mm. Compact enough to handle on smaller slitters, easy to store, and forgiving on your yield calculations. Also the most common width for retail-labelled printed tapes.
1315 mm × 3000/4000/4500 m — Full jumbo rolls
The industrial standard for high-volume converters and large-scale packaging distributors. 1315 mm width slits down to a large number of finished rolls per master, dramatically reducing your input handling cost per finished tape roll. Requires a heavy-duty slitter and pallet handling equipment. This is the preferred format for exporters.
Micron selection — 36, 40, 45, 50, 55
BOPP tape total thickness is a combination of the BOPP film + adhesive layer. Standard offerings are 36, 40, 45, 50 and 55 micron total thickness.
- 36–40 μm: economy grade for light retail and courier bagging
- 42–45 μm: general-purpose carton sealing (best-selling range)
- 48–50 μm: heavy carton sealing, industrial cases, export shipments
- 55+ μm: extreme cold conditions, corrugated fibreboard with high moisture
Quality checks that separate good from great
- Adhesive uniformity: no dry patches, no wet-out along the edges — check under raking light
- Edge quality: absolutely clean, ready-to-slit — no fraying, no bruising
- Unwind consistency: pull 5 metres by hand and confirm even, non-shocked release
- Elongation: film should stretch 40–60% before break, indicating proper biaxial orientation
- Colour clarity: transparent variants should be crystal clear, brown variants should be a consistent shade with no banding
Why sourcing from a fully-integrated Indian manufacturer helps
When your BOPP film supplier and coating unit are under the same roof — as they are at our Patan, Gujarat manufacturing facility — you eliminate the two most common failure modes: film-to-coating adhesion issues and inconsistent primer application. Wellpack Polyplast operates a fully automatic BOPP tape coating line alongside its stretch film cast line, giving converters access to consistent quality with reduced lead times and cleaner MOQ economics.
Ordering economics at export scale
Our standard export MOQ is 1 × 20-foot FCL of BOPP jumbo rolls — depending on core diameter and roll length, that's approximately 15–20 tonnes of finished-tape yield material. LCL smaller shipments are possible for qualified buyers wanting to trial specifications before full container commitment.
